WALKER'S LIGHTHOUSE

architecture

This lighthouse is made of two gabion walls extruded from the landscape. The bisected monolith impedes hiker traffic along the perimeter of the peninsula at Laxe, Spain. Exploration within the confines of the brutal walls of piled rubble encased in metal mesh reveals a peaceful eddy of space.

Hikers are encouraged to live between and inside the two walls, humbled by the massive structure, and treated with clean water and individual sleeping units. Natural water filtering devices, the gabion walls supply water and are arranged to direct perspectives outwards.
