During the Fall of 2015, Building Community conducted a series of classes as part of an after-school program in Dryden, New York. Over the course of five workshops, we taught young students basic tool safety, woodworking skills, concrete mix procedures, and wood finishing techniques in the creation of two benches for their expanding community garden. These workshops are one component of a larger group effort to embrace the social and educational benefits of making. Our student organization invites students to participate in building projects, field trips, and workshops that each champion a sense of craft.
